With support from the South Korean government, Korean medical device manufacturers are actively expanding into the Latin American market.
The Korea Medical Device Industrial Cooperative (KMDIC) organized a Korean Pavilion for 29 companies at the 22nd Hospitalar 2015 held in São Paulo, Brazil, from May 19 to 22, 2015.
The exhibition featured over 1,200 companies from 34 countries and attracted 90,000 visitors from 74 countries.
Participating Korean companies actively promoted their new products through various marketing initiatives, including buyer-matching programs, on-site advertising, and participant meetings.
As a result, consultation deals reached USD 36.12 million (up 5% from the previous year), and contract deals totaled USD 5.7 million (up 4%).
Despite challenges in entering the Brazilian market, such as local product protection policies and delayed certification, KMDIC is helping Korean companies explore diverse entry routes, including local assembly, OEM, ODM, and bidding.
In cooperation with the government, the association is working to remove non-tariff barriers and expand Korean companies’ market share in Brazil.
