The Ministry of Science and ICT and the Korea Industrial Technology Association announced that Kwon Oh-sung, team leader at Lotte Chemical, and Na Chang-sik, senior researcher at poskom, were selected as the June 2021 Korea Engineer Award recipients.
The award, established to promote technological innovation in industry and recognize engineers, honors one engineer each from a large company and a small-to-medium enterprise (SME) monthly, providing the Minister’s Award and a prize of 5 million KRW.
Kwon Oh-sung was recognized for developing substances that accelerate polycarbonate production and independently creating catalysts for all three stages of the process, reducing reliance on Japanese technology and enhancing the competitiveness of Korea’s materials industry.
Na Chang-sik was honored for developing a lightweight portable X-ray device powered by a single battery cell, overcoming the weight and cable limitations of conventional X-ray equipment.
The device is compatible with smartphones, highly portable compared to overseas products, and has significant potential in medical and firefighting applications.
